"I saw the angel in the marble, and carved until I set him free."

ABOUT ME

My name is Josh and I live in Colorado with my lovely wife and two awesome energetic boys.  I attended Colorado State University for a business degree, which was really about as far away from art as it could be.  After my education, I worked a bit in real estate before taking an estimating position, and then later a design position with a local sign company where I am at currently today.

My free time activities includes a lot of art and design, and also getting outside with our family hiking, biking, exploring, etc.  Along with being a Colorado sports fan, I still enjoy playing basketball, football, and golf.

If you are curious as to the Brewery Art I do, that comes from the timing of my early adult life in Fort Collins, CO.  That was a time when a lot of breweries were located in back alleys and industrial parks, and a time where you were basically sitting alongside the brewing equipment in large garages and could smell and feel the entire brewing process.  I was enthralled by the unlimited aspect of creativity and when places like Left Hand Brewing, Odell's, New Belgium and others put out six packs with great art, I knew that was something I would love creating as well.  I continue to be a home brewer today, and still enjoy the creativity that goes into brewing beer.

ABOUT THE ART

All of my art on this site is digital as you probably could see.  While I did do a lot of sketching and painting in my past, somethings just aren't as feasible with a growing family and other responsibilities.   Digital art fills a void of being both ever-changing, a bit complicated, endlessly creative, and all while fitting into a timeframe that is still feasible.

AI & ART

Today, AI is pretty crazy.  You can type a sentence and get a picture.  Although that is pretty cool and I'm still not sure how it's done, it doesn't really scratch the creative itch the same way.  And while I do use a bit of AI in some filters and things, all of my base designs come from me personally.  I mean, what would be the fun in producing art, if the computers are doing it all?  For me, it has always been about getting an idea out of my head and into something visual.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

At some point, I will try and show my creative process from sketch to color, color to metal, and color to illumination.  The creative process is fascinating to me, and what often starts off as a dismal hope, can turn into something amazing.
